Stream Classification
Pacificus provides comprehensive stream classification services for forestry, private industry landowners, government, and First Nations clients. Our fisheries expertise allows us to accurately identify fish habitat within proposed harvest areas and development sites, and manage according to the appropriate guidelines.
When conducting fish stream identification and riparian management, Pacificus adheres to the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA) and Private Managed Forest Land Council’s (PMFLC’s) Field Practices Guide requirements. Our team follows numerous provincial land use orders and criteria including the Great Bear Rainforest Order (Central and South Coast areas), the Haida Gwaii Land Use Objectives Order, and Terrain Risk Management Strategy (TRMS) criteria.
Additionally, Pacificus offers provincial Riparian Area Protection Regulations (RAPR) assessments for municipalities where it is in effect.
Our professional biologists conduct preliminary fish presence assessments, field qualitative and quantitative analyses, fish sampling, habitat utilization assessments, and technical report writing. Fish sampling is primarily conducted through electrofishing and secondary methods such as gee-wire minnow traps.
The reports include detailed information regarding the characteristics of the stream, fish presence, development strategies and accompanying maps and photos.
